Dr. Thomas M. Duffy, Project Director
duffy@indiana.edu
Tom Duffy is a cognitive
psychologist by training but has held a variety of academic positions: a
Psychology professor at University of Manitoba, English professor at Carnegie
Mellon, and Education (Instructional Technology and Language Education)
professor and member of the Cognitive Science program at Indiana University.
His non-academic career includes 10 years at the Navy Personnel R&D Center, a
short stint at Andersen Consulting, and for the last two years at
Cardean University (Unext). In all of this, his work has focused on the design
and use of information. Early on it was adult literacy, the design of
technical documentation and online help systems, and the design of training
systems. More recently, the focus has been on the design of learning
environments, with a focus on learner-centered strategies and on technology as
a tool to support learning.

Dr. Richard P. Lookatch, Project Manager

Richard Lookatch is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Center for Research on Learning
and Technology where he manages the Learning to Teach with Technology Studio
project. Richard has worked in the design and development of interactive teaching
technologies since 1985. He is also a licensed behavioral clinician. His research
interests include technology-based learning and accessibility to technology by
disabled persons.

Carolyn Scholten, Teacher Liaison

Carolyn Scholten
is Teacher Liaison for the LTTS project. She manages Teacher Relationships
and Learner Based Web Management which include managing present module
developers and future staff development programs. Carolyn has 20 years
experience as a middle school mathematics teacher. She received her masters
at Indiana University in Secondary Mathematics Education in 2000. Working on
this degree while teaching, her interest in integrating technology into the
curriculum began with the classroom use of graphing calculators and
developing WebQuests for her students. Carolyn began working for LTTS in the
fall of 2001 and looks forward to helping other teachers explore inquiry based learning using technology.

Gary Neely, Programmer

Gary Neely is the
system programmer and technical contact for LTTS. He is a graduate of the
Purdue University Computer Science program, with minors in Math and
Electrical Engineering. Previously he as worked as a defense contractor and a
small business consultant on computers. He has written several publications,
including co-authoring the book "Windows NT 4.0 Workstation in 24 Hours" with
Martin Kenley, published by Sams Publishing. His personal interests include
computers, massive amounts of reading, 3D graphics programs, diving and
caving, tinkering with an ancient Land Cruiser, and he has been known to
raise ferrets.

Kyle Haskins, Web Designer / Developer

Kyle Haskins is a Web Designer / Developer for the
Center for Research on Learning & Technology. He graduated from Indiana
University with a degree in Art Education and focused his studies in Photography & Digital
Media. Along with the technical side of web development he is also interested
in accessibility, graphic design, interface design, and usability. He also has
experience with Macromedia Flash, digital audio, and video.

Larissa Malopinsky, Instructional and Interface Designer

Larissa
Malopinsky manages LTTS interface design group and develops LTTS graphics.
She is also a member of the LTTS instructional design team. Her teaching
background is in K-12 and college-level EFL education. Larissa is a doctoral
student at Indiana University in instructional systems technology,
information science, and business administration. Her research interests are
knowledge management and e-learning.

Brian Beatty, Project Manager
Brian Beatty is a research associate at the Center for Research
on Learning and Technology, in the School of Education at Indiana University.
He received his PhD in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University,
and spent several years developing e-learning for Unext, Inc. and Option Six,
Inc. Brian has more than fifteen years experience as a classroom teacher, trainer,
and instructional designer in education and government organizations. His research
focuses on social interaction in online learning, developing instructional design
theory for web-based learning environments, and creating innovative e-learning
applications.

Jamie Kirkley, Project Manager
Jamie Kirkley
manages the LTTS project development, partner relationships, staff, and
budget. She previously managed the IU/Turner Adventure Learning Digital
Resource Management where she supervised the development of online curriculum
and materials for teachers and students participating in Turner Adventure
Learning interactive field trips. Her teaching background is in adult and
adolescent literacy. She is also a doctoral candidate at Indiana University
in instructional systems technology and language education. Her research
interests are online collaborative learning and K-12 professional technology
integration and professional development.

Charles Graham, Instructional Designer
Charles Graham is a doctoral student in Instructional Systems Technology.
He has an Master's degree in electrical and computer engineering from
University of Illinois. His research interests focus around distance
learning and the development of online learning environments.

Carey Smith, Instructional Designer
Carey Smith is an instructional designer and developer mentor for LTTS.
She recently completed her elementary certification and works as a classroom
assistant in multiage classrooms at Templeton Elementary.

Nancy Schwartz, Video Production Manager
Nancy has been a teacher for 25 years. She has enjoyed a rich and varied
career, teaching grades 4 to 8 in the public schools of Phoenix, AZ;
grades 6 to 8 with the Department of Defense Schools in Okinawa, Japan;
undergraduates at Indiana University; in-service teachers throughout the
mid-west; adults in community college and community recreation programs;
and six young actresses in buses, hotels, and theaters across America as
the tutor with the Broadway show "Annie." Throughout this time she has
been able to indulge her love of the performing arts by directing and
choreographing school and community theater productions, and conducting
dance and movement classes for preschoolers, adolescents, adults, and
senior citizens. Nancy is currently a doctoral candidate in Instructional
Systems Technology at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Her research
interests include media processing and effects, and the appropriate use of
technology for teaching and learning. Nancy's years as a classroom
teacher, her experience with the performing arts, and her training in
technology are the perfect combination for her role as video
director/producer for the LTTS project. |
