| Abstract: |
The National Science Education Standards stress the teaching of science through inquiry projects, in which students collect, analyze, and interpret their own scientific data. Teachers need to develop activities to teach their students how to answer scientific questions accurately through data collection and analysis. Students' motivation in science increases when they are allowed to ask and answer questions that they find interesting. Technology can assist students in the analysis and presentation of their science inquiry data. In this course you will design and plan a science inquiry unit that will teach your students how to organize and present their own inquiry data using a computer software program. |
| Outcomes: |
After completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Align your science inquiry unit to local, state and/or national
content standards.
- Develop engaging inquiry questions for which data can be collected.
- Teach your students to recognize and collect the four basic
types of data.
- Develop specific strategies for implementing spreadsheet software
to analyze scientific data.
- Create a plan to help your students design graphs to display
scientific data properly.
- Design a concluding activity for your science inquiry unit.
Develop a rubric to assess student products or presentations.
