Many mathematics curricula do not incorporate realistic contexts to help students apply newly learned concepts. Teachers are constantly searching for ways to connect mathematics to the real world. Furthermore, students are looking for meaning and relevance of what they learn in the classroom to the world around them. "When am I ever going to use this?" is a question often posed by students.
One way to promote mathematical connections to the real world is to use authentic resources, such as Internet-based data from business, industry, sports, and government. In this course, you will design a learning activity that uses Internet-based data and the graphing calculator to resolve an authentic problem.
