Course: LA203
Title: "Using Technology to Encourage Reading: How can I improve my student's reading comprehension skills using computer-based video production?"
Author: Kiran Narker
Course Fee: $250.00
Credits: 2 graduate credits available
Instructor: LTTS Facilitator
Abstract: Due to the lack of self-directed reading on the part of students and the resultant drop in reading comprehension skills, educators often witness a marked reduction in student achievement, involvement, and consequent problems with morale and class management. Teachers are constantly searching for ways to improve reading skills, engage inattentive learners, staunch the decline in student achievement, and provide valid, inquiry-based, real-life projects that challenge and inspire the student. Filmmaking is an intuitive and engaging activity that can improve students' reading skills, as well as their analytic and social interaction skills. In this course, you will design a filmmaking unit that encourages the student to grapple with language by transforming a selected text into a short film.
