Course: LA103
Title: "Using Students' Career Interests to Motivate Reading: How do I use the Internet to design a reading unit that promotes inquiry learning?"
Author: Matthew Quirk
Course Fee: $150.00
Credits: 1 graduate credit available
Instructor: LTTS Facilitator
Abstract: Motivating struggling readers to improve their reading skills is a difficult task. This is true especially when these students have struggled for years and are losing sight of why reading is important to them. Teachers often find that the problem begins with reading, but also extends throughout the rest of the curriculum as other subject areas demand good reading skills. Getting these students interested in reading, and improving their reading skills can have a profound effect on the rest of their academic achievement and self-esteem. In this course, you will create an inquiry-based reading unit that taps into your students' personal interests, such as careers, and uses these interests to motivate them to become better readers.
