| Abstract: |
Visualizing geometric transformations presents problems for some students. Students need to be able to visualize transformations in order to fully understand this phenomenon. Furthermore, teachers need means of helping their students visualize geometric transformations. Interactive Web resources and Geometer's Sketchpad (GSP) provide teachers with valuable tools in achieving these goals. In this course, you will develop a unit incorporating both interactive Web resources and Geometer's Sketchpad into your mathematics curriculum to enhance student learning of the three basic geometric transformations.
Alert:
You will need the Geometer's SketchPad software to realize the full use of the resources in this course.
For more information about the GSP software visit: http://www.keypress.com/sketchpad/
Note: There is an Instructor's evaluation version available for free: 60 days with limited functionality. Visit: http://www.keypress.com/sketchpad/sketchdemo.html

| Outcomes: |
After completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Clearly define rotations, reflections, and translations.
- Align lessons and units to local, state and/or national content
standards.
- Determine appropriate unit goals.
- Design transformations lesson plans that incorporate appropriate
technological resources.
- Design a transformations unit plan that is meaningful to both
you and your students.
- Develop an assessment plan that effectively assesses student
learning for the unit.
- Develop an implementation plan for the transformations unit.
