Course: SO302
Title: "Using the Internet to Interpret Quotations: How can I develop a lesson to help students learn about the past for the betterment of the future?"
Author: Sandy Geisler
Course Fee: $150.00
Credits: 1 graduate credit available
Instructor: LTTS Facilitator
Abstract: Teachers are challenged to engage students in learning historical facts and the skills to analyze information, while simultaneously stimulating their students' critical thinking skills. How do they help their students take the successes and failures of the past and apply the lessons learned to the betterment of society today and in the future? When put into their proper context in history, "Knowledge Nuggets" or wisdoms from the past can illuminate a student's personal understanding of historical events, choices, and their consequences, enabling them to learn and then look to apply new knowledge to world events that surround them today. Without these skills, it will be difficult for students to grow, prosper, and constructively contribute to the world in which they live. In this course, you will design an inquiry-based lesson using online resources that will help your students make the connection between the past, present, and future through the use of "Knowledge Nuggets."
Outcomes: After completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • Develop an inquiry-based lesson plan that incorporates a CBL experiment in a way that supports your curriculum.
  • Align your inquiry-based CBL lesson to local, state and national content and technology standards.
  • Select algebra investigations using CBLs that align with your curriculum.
  • Identify the various CBL probes' capabilities and mathematical applications.
  • Design a data organizational tool for student use that is "user-friendly" and suitable for use with this CBL investigation.
