Course: MA203
Title: "Exploring Geometry with Pictures: How can I integrate technology to incorporate real-world geometry into my classroom?"
Author: Summer Brown
Course Fee: $250.00
Credits: 2 graduate credits available
Instructor: LTTS Facilitator
Abstract: Teachers often struggle with making mathematics meaningful for their students. One cause may be that some students lack experiences connecting the mathematics they are learning in the classroom to their everyday lives. It may also be a result of some teachers not being familiar with strategies for helping students understand how useful mathematics is in their daily lives. By developing a Photo Gallery Unit for your students that is based on technology and geometry, teachers can help students visualize the mathematics that surrounds them. Moreover, teachers can use this unit as an opportunity to further develop their own technology skills as well as their students' technology skills. The unit will provide students with an experience to connect mathematics with everyday life. In this course, you will design an inquiry-based geometry unit that supports students in forming meaningful mathematical connections while exposing them to technology. This inquiry-based unit will be referred to as your Photo Gallery Unit.
Outcomes:
  • Select quality Internet resources connecting mathematics and the real world.
  • Design an inquiry-based geometry unit that is aligned to local, state, and national content and technology standards.
  • Develop a mathematics lesson that promotes inquiry and connects to students' everyday lives.
  • Incorporate technology into your classroom lessons.
  • Develop an implementation plan for a technology-integrated unit.
  • Create assessments to evaluate student performance and learning.
Timeline: You will have 12 weeks to complete this course. If you wish to complete the course after this period, you must re-enroll and pay any applicable enrollment fee.
