| Abstract: |
Anywhere we travel, whether to a neighboring town or across the world, historical sites and geographical wonders surround us. Places and people that bring our history and geography alive, that make us who we are, remind us of their importance and their impact on us today. How can teachers spark their students’ interest in these events and places that surround them everywhere they go? How can they engage their students in learning about different cultures, peoples, and customs throughout their lives, while also learning concrete skills (e.g. map reading skills, budgeting, organizational and research skills, etc.)? Further, how can they help their students realize that what they learn in school has direct application to their lives on a daily basis…that there is a true benefit and purpose to education in the classroom? Developing an integrated lesson plan based on trip planning pulls together classroom learning in an authentic environment. In this course, you will design an inquiry-based unit using online resources to help your students plan a trip and learn about people, cultures, places, and events that make us who we are today. |
