Course: LA302
Title: "Online Discussion Forums in Second Language Acquisition: How can I actively engage my students in meaningful reading and writing activities?"
Author: Peter Rich
Course Fee: $150.00
Credits: 1 graduate credit available
Instructor: LTTS Facilitator
Abstract: For students, the ability to communicate with other cultures is becoming increasingly important. Authentic learning activities provide students a context in which to immerse themselves in a language and its culture. But how does a teacher extend this context beyond the confines of the classroom? One solution is to create an online electronic discussion forum where students can discover, research, discuss, and debate different aspects of a language and its representative culture(s). Through such activities, language becomes the vehicle for learning about a culture instead of a process of piecing together different grammatical structures. In this course, you will learn how to effectively design and moderate an Online Discussion Forum Unit for use in a second language acquisition class. You will develop goals for this unit that align to curriculum and technology standards.
Outcomes:

After completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Locate, identify, and choose relevant national, state, and/or local standards that apply to your class.
