The Learning to Teach with Technology Studio (LTTS) provides professional development courses that help teachers:

  • Create learner-centered lessons that engage students in the core subject areas.
  • Create lessons that meet their particular curriculum needs.
  • Link to curriculum standards.
  • Effectively integrate technology so that students use it as an integral part of their activity.
  • Learn to develop competency-based assessments.

» LTTS Basics

  • 50+ courses available entirely online.
  • Developed by teachers, for teachers.
  • Self-paced (start at own time, work at own pace).
  • Online mentoring by experienced teachers.

» We Can Do A Lot More With LTTS

LTTS has a proven online system ready to enroll teachers today. However, we are very happy to tailor LTTS to meet your specific professional development needs. Consider the following possibilities:

  • Your organization can take over the online mentoring, so that your professional staff and faculty are helping one another. In this case, LTTS becomes one of your school's professional development resources.
  • Using online discussion forums, we (or you) can facilitate collaborative discussions designed to build communities of practice around curriculum standards, evaluation in student-centered lessons, action research on lesson effectiveness, or any related topic that is central to your professional development goals.
  • We offer face-to-face workshops to supplement online course activities. These workshops may be held at your site, here at Indiana University, or possibly at another location that is more convenient.
  • If you have a large number of users (upwards of 500), you may want to license the entire LTTS system. Courses remain on our server, but you have full rights and privileges in using the system.

In addition, we are prepared to work with you to plan the best use of LTTS for your educational setting, using the resources and talents of Indiana University's School of Education to support you in:

  • Planning your faculty professional development.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the LTTS and other professional development efforts.

These are just some of the options. If you think LTTS might help you meet your professional development needs, let's talk. One of our primary goals is to help you make your professional development efforts the most successful they can be. We have the rich resources of the Indiana University School of Education to support you.

» Next Steps: What should you do if you are interested?

There are several easy first steps.

1. Have some of your key personnel review our courses.

  • All reviewers must first “Register” with LTTS at our website by:
    • Going to the LTTS website at http://ltts.indiana.edu
    • Clicking “Register” and filling out the short form, then clicking "Submit” at the bottom of the form.

Then, send us an e-mail (ltts@indiana.edu) and let us know:

  • What courses you would like to access.
  • The e-mail address for each reviewer.

Once we establish your review account(s), we will send you and e-mail notifying you that your access has been authorized. Once you receive notification, just go to ltts.indiana.edu and login, using the username and password established in your registration. You will be taken to “My Desk” where you will be able to access the courses.

2. Let us help you develop a strategy. When your review is complete, we will discuss with you:

  • How we might partner in meeting your professional development needs.
  • We will work with you to custom-tailor LTTS to meet your needs.

Don't forget to consider how you might like LTTS custom-tailored, what additional support you might want, and what roll-out strategy might be most effective. We view our relationships with schools and districts as partnerships and we are ready to work with you throughout the planning process.

» LTTS Courses

In each course, learners will submit 4-7 assignments for evaluation. The final assignment includes creating a project ready for use in their own classrooms.

Most of our courses focus on designing inquiry lessons that integrate technology in the content areas: language arts, math, science, and social studies. Course topics include author studies, doing field work in science using probe technologies, and creating lessons using the power of dynamic geometry software.

Other courses discuss general technology for supporting student-centered instruction (e.g., WebQuests). These courses are applicable across many content areas.

» Proven Effective

We have been developing LTTS courses since 1999 and have incorporated continuous input from teachers as we evaluated and refined the design. When we interview teachers who have taken our courses, over 80% tell us they used the projects they developed. Teachers who were interviewed or completed a course evaluation stated that the LTTS course was a valuable professional development experience.

» Learners have told us:

"I really liked it … they gave you enough guidance that you felt confident about what you were doing, but you were still designing your own product." Paul, classroom teacher, Georgia

"I am extremely satisfied with what I have learned about integrated thematic instruction and supporting all learners with technology! Although I have developed many units before, this is the first time that I have really planned a unit with thoughtful consideration about the learning styles of my students, adaptations in terms of access for my challenged students, and technology enhancement. What a GREAT feeling!" Bonnie, classroom teacher, Indiana

I am really impressed with this. I think this is a marvelous tool for teaching.Marcia, instructional technology specialist, Texas
